Stop Scars and Snags: The Power of Z-Hop
Use “Z-Hop When Retracted” to Prevent Print Scars and Snags
What It Is:
Z-Hop lifts the nozzle slightly upward during travel moves when retraction is triggered. This prevents the nozzle from dragging across the print surface.
Why It’s a Game-Changer:
Prevents scratches and blobs on finished surfaces
Reduces the chance of knocking over small parts or features
Crucial for multi-part batch prints and tall, delicate details
How to Enable:
In Cura: Under
Travel > Z Hop When Retracted
Suggested height: 0.2–0.4mm (enough to clear, not too slow)
Works best with a well-tuned retraction setting, so no stringing while hopping
Best For:
Prints with tight surface details or smooth top layers
Multiple parts printed at once
Tall or narrow models that could get bumped mid-travel
