Stop Scars and Snags: The Power of Z-Hop

Use “Z-Hop When Retracted” to Prevent Print Scars and Snags

What It Is:

Z-Hop lifts the nozzle slightly upward during travel moves when retraction is triggered. This prevents the nozzle from dragging across the print surface.

Why It’s a Game-Changer:

  • Prevents scratches and blobs on finished surfaces

  • Reduces the chance of knocking over small parts or features

  • Crucial for multi-part batch prints and tall, delicate details

How to Enable:

  • In Cura: Under Travel > Z Hop When Retracted

    • Suggested height: 0.2–0.4mm (enough to clear, not too slow)

  • Works best with a well-tuned retraction setting, so no stringing while hopping

Best For:

  • Prints with tight surface details or smooth top layers

  • Multiple parts printed at once

  • Tall or narrow models that could get bumped mid-travel
